Some terms ago I had a group project with *real* students at school. Our group built a Squeak eToys project.

This project is about free-falling objects and their behavior on planes.

You can try it for yourself. Be sure that you have installed the Squeak Plugin. It is available for all common platforms. If you have installed Squeak, your browser should be able to run the project. You also can change the project and save it on your local drive!

Have fun!

Meal

My meal at the flight from L.A. back to Frankfurt (United Airlines)

I just finished a little project for my studies. It is the last big stepping stone on the street to my thesis. Next week I will start it.

Okay some information about this finished project. It is about developing competences and skills in programming. I wrote a “Book” with Sophie. The title of the book is “Programmieren lernen mit Scratch” (Learning to program with SCRATCH). If you are interested to read it, you can download it as a Sophie book. It is in German! Unzip the file and open the file named ‘SophieBook.sophiepublished’. You will need Sophie or the SophieReader which you can download from the site above.

For a Overview you can have a look at some pictures taken from the book. Click on the Picture below!

I also wrote a little paper (in German) about my work.

And if you want to try Scratch for yourself, you can download Scratch on the MIT website.

Have fun!

btw: I forgot to say THANKS to Michael Rueger and Bernd Eckardt from impara for their Sophie support and Henry Herper from Department of Simulation and Graphics for his supervision!

I plan to go to New Zealand next year. First I have to finish my study, but there are a lot of things I have to decide. So it is quite obvious that all the planning will take a little time.

Some very important things I already found out.

I am under 30 years old so I can take a so called “Working Holiday Visa”. It seems that the requirements for that visa is like that “Work & Travel Visa” for Australia. All the information can you find at nzembassy.com. Choose your country because the conditions are different from your home country. If you are from Germany you can also have a look at the german pages or direct to the “Working Holiday Scheme” for Germans.

The next step is to find work and to book a flight. The peak season in New Zealand is January and February. So the flights are more expensive. It is possible to find a courier flight. That will reduce the costs for the flight.

I will post more about that when I find some more information.

.. took just as long and lots of nerves as the other times. All the questions and decisions..

Some weeks ago I found iWeb on a iMac which I use to take when I visit my friend. And I really liked it. I still like it. The templates are brilliant and there was no need to think about all the stuff beyond the content. Actually I thought iWeb brings everything I need.

My life is changing and inspired from iWeb I wanted to start -for the third time- my own blog with some pages about me, some pictures from my traveling etc. But there was still one BIG question: How can I create several categories for my blog when I use iWeb?! Hey, I want to write about different things and don’t want to mix them all up!

GEE!!

So today I took THE WHOLE DAY to find out how to solve that problem. While I asked Google I found Blog.Mac. Blog.Mac is a tool for blogging that supports categories! But I don’t want to spend my time to create a nice template. Blog.Mac already has some funny templates but they doesn’t convince me. But for those who are interested: I think, it is worth to have a look!

Another point that seems to be kind of tricky is to comment a post. Somewhere I found the hint to take iComment, if you don’t have a .Mac account. You also have to create a HaloScan account. iComment is a (interface) script between your iWeb blog and that third-party-comment-system HaloScan.

Great work and idea but did I mention that I just want it simple ;-) I would use it when iWeb support blog categories.. *sigh*

Finally a friend sent me a link to a iWeb2WordPress page. Gee, that is bloody brilliant!! You can switch to all iWeb Templates. I wonder if these templates support categories for blogs. I would ask but I didn’t find any adresse or name. I just can wait for the scripts and maybe I can switch to one of those when they are finished?!

I am quite impatient. That’s why I just wanted to have a look to WordPress. Actually -and I think that is important- I wanted a TOOL so I can write my posts OFFline. But when I saw how nice these WordPress template are.. I choose to use it.

I had a lot of questions and wishes in my head and after all WordPress seems to be a nice compromise.

iWeb and Blog.Mac are really nice! Both support .Mac (of course)! And when you are more patient or if you don’t have exorbitant pretentions then -I think- it is worth to use Blog.Mac! But one thing puzzles me a little bit. iWeb seems to me like an unfinished tool. It looks very nice, it is easy to use, there are no preferences to set. But the blog features are quite ill-conceived. Maybe I am not their target-group?! But actually I thought I am..
